Worth The Wax #27: Creative Control

we tackle the concept of “creative ownership” by mixing remixes, edits, reworks, and covers in this tape. PT wrote the Percussion Lab op-ed piece, drawing from the documentary, The People vs. George Lucas

Worth The Wax #25: Preview Unsound NY 2012

Today marks the second day of Unsound NY 2012, and to celebrate the five-day festival, Cambo and I have put together a Worth The Wax mixtape featuing some of the performing artists we’re most excited to see. The first half showcases the dark, meditative, musique-concrete-via-techno sounds you’ll experience most often at Unsound, whereas the second proves how well experimental electronic music works on the dance floor.

we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve joined the ranks of RWD.FM — Cambo & PT will bring the Worth The Wax mix tape series to the internet airwaves every Sunday from 2pm-4pm (US EST). we’ll spin vinyl and talk a bit about the records (kind of like our earlier tapes), blend new with old, and stay blind to genre restrictions. just like every good radio show! (we hope.)

big thank you to jamie and the crew at RWD.FM for bringing us into the family!

Worth the Wax 21: L.A. HEAT

Philly Blunts and Cambo take to the west coast for that sunniest of movements, the explosion of Brainfeeder hip hop in Cali. Cosmic jazz, unadulterated funk, and a hefty dose of UK-inspired IDM bass weight inform the music of those revolving around one Flying Lotus, and we take a look at all those working in, inspired by, and preceding the current wave of heat emanating from Los Angeles. PT is on the frontside, disseminating the area’s current operators, with Cambo serving up the outer branches of those fragrant Cali beat trees on the second half.

Worth the Wax 19: A Stroll Down Dystopia Lane…

Worth the Wax 19 on Percussion Lab…

Come Stroll Dystopia: Percussion Lab article by PT

Music isn’t all doom-and-gloom, certainly - but the dystopian touch seems to resonate quite strongly in 2012. For Worth the Wax this week, we attempted to soundtrack an imaginary stroll through Dystopia made real. No tracklist this time, to avoid any preconceptions and artist-oogling. First half is PT, second Cambo. Two 1200s and a cassette deck recorded live as always, cold and creepy, just for you.
