Such. a. jam. Dayum.

F*cking huge. Instra:mental come very, very correct with this 12” sampler for their upcoming Resolution 653 LP on their label, NonPlus. “Thomp” is a masterclass in airy grime reduction, a sucker punch to the gut that will leave dancers gasping for breath. The flip, “When I Dip”, delves into B-more and Chi-town juke territory with some syncopated claps, dirty bass hits, and an irresistibly catchy vocal sample that, well, makes me want to dip, and dip hard.
Really looking forward to this album, it’s out and about on the first week of April.

A beautiful piece of late night, Blade Runner-indebted electronica, Instra:mental’s “From the Start” acts as a perfect entry point for those of you not aware of the fine work this London duo is producing. Distant twinkles of light and sweeping filter chords carve out room for intricate, Autonomic-branded percussion and 80s-style melodic synth bass to out-romanticise anybody, man or machine.
Highly recommend that you, reader, become acquainted with the Autonomic sound, engaging warm and soothing melodies with the craftiest percussion around, it’s as if the music is trying to prove it is capable of love only to be buried under layers of razor sharp and frigid instrumentation. Not only do Alex Green and Damon Kirkham produce such ambitiously different music, but they lay claim to two of the freshest labels around, along with drum & bass stalwart D-Bridge. Both Non-Plus and Autonomic have unearthed some of the most experimental and ambitious artists working in electronic music over the past two years, from Riya and LOL to ASC and Vaccine.
In addition, they have been able to extract some of the most mind-bending compositions to come from Skream, Actress, Kassem Mosse, and Distance for these labels, further encasing the autonomic sound in it’s own genre-defining arena. In a sentence, it’s like pop, funk, and soul music has been disintegrated into millions of tiny fragments and re-arranged by robots straight out of Tron or Blade Runner. Look forward to more from these guys in the future, just superb compositions housed in sterling artwork…mm mmm mmmmmmm.
